10. German Short-Haired Pointer - They are the most common police dogs as they are large in numbers. They are hunters. They look fierce but are one of the most friendly dogs.

9. Bloodhound - Bloodhounds have a very, very good sense of smell. Researchers estimate that their sense of smell is at least 1,000 times stronger than a human's. Police departments around the world have learned to use this special power to their advantage.

8. Boxer Dog - One of the more popular uses of boxers as police dogs is training them to be what's known as a public order enforcement dog. Boxers are a popular alternative to German shepherds in this role, and are used to chase down and hold suspects in order to assist the police with making an arrest.

7. Labrador Retriever - They make excellent police dogs and can be used by a search and rescue team to find someone who is missing or in danger. Training the dog to fulfill these duties can take a while, but once the dog is trained, the benefits are well worth the effort.

2. Rottweiler - They were one of the pioneer police dogs, trained for guard dog work because of their muscled body, stamina and intelligence. Their strong will and profound sentient intelligence made them star performers in military roles.

1. German Shepherd - Probably one of the most recognize breed out there, known for helping the police and the military catch criminals and drug traffickers. These dogs know no fear and risk their lives along with their fellow police force to catch the bad guys.
