The celebration of the Spring Equinox and the ceremonial first lighting of the Fire Circle at UNBC's Agora Courtyard was presented by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives.

A fire circle is a gathering place where stories and teachings are shared. For generations, fire circles have been used as a way to heal, bond together and begin sacred ceremonies, events, or rituals.

The event featured remarks from Vice-Provost of Indigenous Initiatives, Dr. Henry Harder, an opening ceremony prayer from Lheidli T'enneh Elder Darlene McIntosh, a welcome from President Dr. Geoff Payne, the ceremonial lighting of the Fire Circle by student Kiley Jackson, a presentation from Dr. Jessie King, First Nations Studies and songs by the UHNBC PG Traditional Drummers.
