The Galician Institute of High Energy Physics (IGFAE) is a joint centre of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the Xunta de Galicia. It was created in 1999, with the triple foundational mission of promoting Particle Physics, coordinating the participation in large international infrastructures (CERN, GSI, LIGO...) and increasing its industrial return.

Our main research interests are in Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology, and Nuclear Physics, although we also work in related areas such as instrumentation and medical physics.

In 2017 we obtained the accreditation of the Ministry of Science and Innovation María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence and we are the only centre in Galicia with this distinction. The IGFAE also has the CIGUS recognition from the Xunta de Galicia, which accredits the quality and impact of its research.
